My "30 And Beyond" List

For the next five Thursdays, I will be sharing my thoughts on each of my five New Year's resolutions.  Today's post is a response to my New Year's resolution #1:

I love goals.  I like knowing that my hard work and daily actions are building up to something bigger.  I also love lists.  Crossing an item off of a list fills me with a major sense of accomplishment.

I wanted to do a 30 by 30 list as a New Year’s resolution this year (a list of 30 challenging things to complete by the age of 30), but I’m older than the typical blogger so I already missed my chance.  That doesn't mean that I don’t have big plans for my life though, I do!  So, as part of my 2015 New Year’s resolution, I am making a bucket list.  Since I am currently 30 years old, I’m going to call this my “30 and Beyond List”.  It doesn't have quite the same ring to it as “30 by 30”, but I’m sticking with it.  Besides, now I’m not limited to doing only 30 things. Heck, I’m in charge here, so I have no limits.

Watch out world!

My 30 And Beyond List

Visit Machu Picchu
Be fluent in a second language
Break 1:40 in a half marathon (I may be delusional, but I have to give this a try)
Own a cottage
Write a book
Go to a restaurant by myself
Run the Magic Week 5k
Successfully knit something
Complete another Bikram yoga challenge
Have kids
Go on a bike tour
Learn how to play the ukulele
Volunteer to participate in a science experiment
Listen to an entire audio book
Make a vlog
Return to Hawaii
Pay off my mortgage
Make an album (Not being able to sing wouldn't stop me from trying!)
Ride my bike to my grandparent’s house (it’s far)
Visit all 50 states (airports don’t count)
Travel to Mexico
Learn how to drive a stick shift
Travel to Australia
Travel to Iceland
Make a 3 course meal entirely from ingredients grown in my garden
Take a boxing class
Invent an ice cream flavor
Go on a backpacking/camping excursion
Save $1,000,000 for retirement (yeah, I said it!)
Grow a fruit tree in my yard

Have I ever mentioned that I plan to live to be at least 106 years old? Well, living to be healthy and happy at an old age is another life goal of mine.  This is why I’m going to call my “30 and Beyond” list a rough draft.  As I live longer and learn more, I’m sure there are going to be plenty of things that I want to add to this list, so I will!  Even though there are some mighty big goals here, I hope that this list is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the things that I will accomplish in life.

I have added a “30 and Beyond” tab to the sidebar of my blog; see it over there on the right? Check it regularly, because I’m going to update my list as things get accomplished, and I plan to share details whenever I successfully cross an item off of the list. Ready, set, go!

I don't have an official bucket list written down, but I definitely have some things in mind. They include:
-visiting Europe. Specifically France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.
-running a marathon
-building our own home some day

So kind of all big things. I'm not really sure where we want to build a house yet, as I'm not totally committed to living in the frozen tundra for the rest of my life. So maybe this would be a retirement home in a warmer climate? Not sure, just thinking (typing) out loud here.

Good luck with your list!

I love your list! I have some similar items on my list. I want to run a race in all 50 states. Definitely want to pay off my mortgage and sky dive!
Good luck with your list! Can't wait to follow along.

Machu Pichu is an AMAZING place, definitely on my bucket list too! Anything in particular that's drawing you there?

I'm digging the list and I really like the 30 and beyond idea - because who says I need a timeline on when I can do all these things and how many I can have on it?! I like your style and I'm totally going to steal it. I turn 30 in August - so yay for being fine like aged wine bloggers :)

Paying off the mortgage, YES.

Fruit tree? Totally have two peach trees in our backyard but hardly ever get peaches off them because grasshoppers are jerkheads and eat them the second they're ripe.
