Today's post is a response to my New Year's resolution #3:
The problem: I’m not a big fan of cooking, shopping or preparing meals. I’m more of an eating fan.
Like, I really like to eat.
So, what does a girl who loves to eat but doesn't like to cook do? Well, she usually spends the majority of her time wishing that someone else would make her dinner. Then, when she realizes she’s starving and that her fairy godmother hasn't come to her rescue, she tries to create her own healthy meal by mixing any random assortment of foods she can scrounge up from her pantry and refrigerator.
I’ll be the first to admit that the results of this method are nothing to brag about.
Failing to plan meals and settling for sub-par tasting food is a vicious cycle. 2015 is the year for me to break this cycle.
Starting this day forth, I am a meal planner! I will create a menu, prepare delicious recipes and stick to a food budget! YEEHAW!
Seriously, I’m excited about this. Want to know what I do when I get excited about something? I get really extreme and go overboard with planning and preparation. I consider this a good thing when it comes to meal planning. Here’s what I've done so far to prepare.
2) I selected 28 dinner meals from my Tasty Things board, a variety of cookbooks, and my personal recipe binder and strategically placed them on this February calendar.
4) I sorted and printed the excel sheet and then dug through my refrigerator and pantry to see what ingredients I already owned so that I could cross them off of the list.
5) I clipped coupons, printed some on-line coupons and added some digital coupons to the shopper rewards card from my local grocery store.
6) I went to the grocery store and bought dinner ingredients for 14 meals.
I HAVE MEAL PLANS!
As far as the whole budgeting thing goes, I have no idea how much money I currently spend on food (eep!). My plan right now is to save my food receipts for February, do some math at the end of the month and then spend less in March.
Time to cook and EAT!
