Today, I want to let everyone know that I am in full blown holiday spirit mode, thanks to my advent calendar.
My Advent Calendar Makes Me Happy
The gist is: A few years ago, my husband and I got thrifty, created a list of 24 family-friendly holiday adventures, bought a fake tree prop at the local thrift store, and--ta-da!--a family advent calendar was born! (Learn more here.)
When we made the calendar, we had our future children in mind and attempted to make it kid appropriate. This year, our advent calendar is being kid tested for the first time and it is so fun!
Here’s the list of activities:
Play a game by the fire
Make a Christmas dessert
Work on a puzzle
Go downtown or to the mall to see Christmas decorations
Make a Christmas craft
Wrap presents. One must be fancy!
Take a family picture in front of the Christmas tree
Call or visit a family member
Go to a candy store for a holiday treat
Watch a Christmas show or movie
Deliver a Christmas dessert to a friend or family member
Buy a new Christmas ornament
Go for a walk in a new neighborhood to see Christmas lights
Make a homemade breakfast and eat together
Read a Christmas story or book
Go for a walk and then make hot chocolate
Make an edible gingerbread house
Make a list of 10 things you want to do in the New Year
Write a Christmas poem
Have apple cider by the fire
Volunteer somewhere together
Listen to Christmas music
Make and send four homemade Christmas cards
I love that each year we have interpreted the tasks on the calendar a little bit differently and taken the time to do all of the activities as a family. Our advent calendar has become a family tradition and that makes me happy.
Cheers to you and your family, and I hope you have a happy, jolly, fun-filled merry Christmas!
*Truth be told, I DID share my advent calendar adventures the first month that I started this blog, but chances are (unless you are my husband) you weren't here to read about it.
